Plenary – Pursuit of Excellence and Interoperability: The Vision of the Federal Electronic Health Record

The FEHRM is leading the Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in implementing a single, common federal electronic health record (EHR) that enhances patient care and provider effectiveness, wherever care is provided. A panel of FEHRM, DOD and VA leaders will talk about this federal journey toward EHR modernization including how the federal sector is driving change across the health care enterprise, the importance of interoperability and how the federal EHR will enahnce the health care experience of providers and patients.

Plenary – Interoperability: Optimal Efficiency for Improved Outcomes

The FEHRM develops a strategy to collaborate with federal partners to create a comprehensive federal EHR. FEHRM leaders will share the latest policies and standards trends that drive patient care toward mission-critical positive outcomes. They will discuss the role of interoperability in improving Service members' readiness and Veterans' health care.

Breakout Session – Expanding Access to Data and Enhancing its Use

A panel of FEHRM and DOD leaders will discuss the expansion of federal agencies' reach to external data with connections to the Carequality Framework and State Immunization Registries. The FEHRM is implementing innovative initiatices such as National Language Processing and Seamless Exchange to increase usability of external data brought in.

Breakout Session – Population Health Technology and Clinical Data Integration

FEHRM and DOD leaders will discuss how federal agencies can leverage technology and system-to-system relationships to consistently improve health outcomes today within the federal EHR, using relevant historical data integration and preventing future illness.

Breakout Session – Advancing the MHS API Strategy

FEHRM and DOD leaders will discuss how the adoption of Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Application Programming Interface (API) is enabling advancements in data science in military medicine. The panelists will showcase different use cases for a common data model as well as discuss the upcoming API strategy that includes a FHIR gateway and the pilot of integrating SMART apps with MHS GENESIS. In addition, the panelists will discuss the latest in providing artificial intelligence and machine learning across the enterprise.

The FEHRM also had a booth (Booth #222) displaying handouts and showcasing HealtheRegistries, Natural Language Processing, Immunization Gateway, Joint Health Information Exchange Heat Map, and the Individual Longitudinal Exposure Registry User Interface.
